Scarlet, by A.C. Gaughen, re-tells the Robin Hood story with Scarlet (aka Will Scarlet) at the center. The cross-dressing thief tries to protect the people of Nottingham, and at the same time protect her own identity. She tries to hide, but Robin really sees her. I loved the story, the setting, the characters. It took me a few page to get into the dialect, but Gaughen uses it to great effect, especially at the novel’s close.
